to go into tolt you lift the reins to pull the head right up (a lot higher than you would usually ) then signal with alternate legs to the horse. To go into flying pace from gallop you throw your weight over to one side of the horse.

yes - Boett rug definately works> My mare has worn one for the last three summers and now has a mane down to her elbows!! I use Benyl benzoate and fly repllents on her face and ears as the hood does not go close enough to her eyes or down her muzzle enough and generallly keeps it under control. She got used to putting it on very quickly as it has to go over her head and now helps by pushing her head into it. I would thoroughly recommend it. Boett rug was suggested by mey vet and the Insurance company actually paid for the first one
